Students can chose to start at the top of the learning map and work their way chronologically down the list which will help with memory retention or go to an area directed by their teacher.

Topic: Of Mice and Men and Writing with a Viewpoint
- Pupils will study the text Of Mice and Men to develop their ability to understand characterisation and themes within a novel. Pupils will develop their inference and deduction skills whilst engaging with the literary devices used to create atmosphere and setting. Pupils will be expected to demonstrate their understanding of context and its impact when analysing a whole text.

Topic: Blood Brothers and Poetry
- Pupils will study an abridged version of the play Blood Brothers to develop their understanding of script writing, stage directions and character creation. Pupils will analyse the language and themes found across the play whilst having the opportunity to take on roles. Whilst studying the play pupils will have the opportunity to discuss relationships, families and social divides.

Topic: Maze Runner and Dystopian Writing
- Pupils will study the novel Maze Runner to develop their ability to understand characterisation and themes within a dystopian novel. Pupils will consider the effects a writer creates through their language and structural choices, whilst improving their critical analysis.
