At Little Lever School our students have a fantastic opportunity every morning to participate in our Life Chances curriculum. The Life Chances curriculum will provide students with ‘The Edge’ to support them through school life and beyond. The Edge Tutor is the person the student will see at the start of every day and is the first point of contact for students and parents if they want to discuss anything.
During Edge Time, one element of the life chances programme students in Year 7 and 8 will embark on is a programme called ‘The PiXL Edge’. Employers and universities have said they look for 5 core attributes in standout students:
The PiXL Edge is a framework for schools to develop and accredit those attributes essential for employability and life. Students log their achievements in and out of school for each of the attributes. In Year 7 and 8 students can be accredited with the PiXL Apprentice once the appropriate evidence has been verified.
Students will study during this time, what it means to have good physical and mental health (RSE curriculum), prepare for and deliver an assembly and then debate the moral dilemmas presented to build their confidence in oracy. This can also be used as evidence for part of the communication element of the PiXL Edge accreditation above. For the older students further elements of the RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) curriculum, citizenship, CEIAG and finance will be delivered.
