It is a pleasure to welcome all new students to our school, and to our school family.  Here at Little Lever School we want to help every person achieve things they never thought they could, and this begins from the moment you have accepted a place for your child at our school.

Whilst this is an exciting time, we also understand that this process can raise a lot of questions, worries and concerns surrounding what’s next and what to expect.  We want to reassure you and provide as much guidance as we can to make this next step as easy as possible.  Please refer to the information outlined on this page for more support, and keep checking back for any updates as we move closer to transition dates.

Transition Day

As we near the local authority allocated transition day, further details will be added to our website regarding the plan for the day, including timings and what to expect.  For the time being, please do not worry.  We are looking forward to meeting our new students and our collaboration with primary schools will ensure we have all the required information and guidance to support their taster day at our school.

Parent/Carer Information Evening

Similarly, as we get closer to the event, we will update our website with timings and details regarding the evening where you will be able to meet key staff from school and learn more about the transition process, including what to expect from September.

Learning Leader

Each year group at Little Lever School has an allocated learning leader.  This is the adult who will oversee all pastoral elements of your child’s day to day experience at school.  They will monitor behaviour and achievements, provide guidance and support to assist students accessing education and be the first point of contact for any parental queries.  The new learning leader for year 7 will be allocated shortly and contact details made available.

Prep Tutors

All students are allocated a prep tutor who will be one of the first adults to welcome them to their new school.  They will spend time with their prep tutor each day, to complete sessions such as guided reading, assemblies, retrieval practice and student briefing.  They will also take part in sessions linked to our Life Chances curriculum, where students learn about health and wellbeing, relationships and world events.  A child’s prep tutor (along with their learning leader) is the first port of call for any queries or concerns linked to your child.  They will be eager to help and ensure that you all have everything you need to flourish at Little Lever School.

As we get closer to transition day, the list of prep tutors for next year’s year 7 students will be confirmed and posted on our website.  Students will find out who their prep tutor will be for next year, when they join us for their transition day.

Uniform

Please see our uniform page on our website for more information regarding our uniform expectations and standards. Each year group has a different coloured stripe tie to help identify their peers.  The colour of stripe tie for the 2026 year 7 cohort will be green.

Our Uniform Stockists

Parents/carers will be required to purchase branded items (blazer, jumper, tie, PE Kit) from a stockist, however all other items can be purchased from supermarkets or other easily accessible shops.

*For families who require support with acquiring school uniforms, please contact school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Parents and carers will regularly receive updates regarding all aspects of your child’s learning and conduct.  Parents/carer’s evening will take place in the Autumn term where you will be able to get an update of how your child has settled into school.

All letters and regular correspondence that need to be communicated with home will be added to your Parent Portal (you will receive further correspondence about how to set this up and organise logins)

Regular text messages are also sent out regarding behaviour concerns and achievements.  In addition, any important announcements that might need to be communicated quickly and without warning to parents and carers may also occur via text message.

We also use Class Charts which helps to provide copies of timetables, homework activities and other regular communication (you will receive further correspondence about how to set this up as your child joins our school).

Not necessarily.  Students will be placed into prep groups and academic classes based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to); academic ability based on SATs/CATs, information provided from primary school, levels of SEND need/support and to ensure there is a balanced and equal opportunity to learning.  Whilst we know that many parents feel comforted that children might be placed in classes with their friends from primary, we know that this doesn’t always support student progress and development, and this is always the first priority.

In the first instance, please see our SEND page for more information.  If your child was on the SEND register in primary school, we will be notified about this through our normal transition systems.  It is important to note that support can look very different from primary to secondary school as systems vary from one school to another.  All queries should be made through our school’s SEND team for more information (jca@little-lever.bolton.sch.uk).

You will be able to meet the SENDCo and Assistant SENDCo at our transition evening, and the SEND team will be visiting primary schools where there is significant need, to support the transition of documentation and knowledge.

If we feel that a child needs a medical plan due to an ongoing medical need or regular administration of medication, parents will be able to arrange a meeting to discuss the systems involved with this.  This will take place with one of the SEND team to ensure that all needs are met.  Please contact a member of the SEND team to discuss this further.
