Domestic abuse can encompass a wide range of behaviours and may be a single incident or a pattern of incidents. That abuse can be, but is not limited to:
- Psychological,
- Physical,
- Sexual,
- Financial
- Emotional.
Children can be victims of domestic abuse. Living in an abusive environment is categorised as abuse itself. They may see, hear, or experience the effects of abuse at home and/or suffer domestic abuse in their own intimate relationships. All of which can have a detrimental and long-term impact on their health, wellbeing, development, and ability to learn.
Domestic abuse can affect anyone, young or old, whatever your background. It can happen at any point in a relationship and in any type of relationship. Anyone forced to change their behaviour because they are frightened of their partner or ex-partner’s reaction is experiencing abuse.
Domestic abuse is never the fault of the person who is experiencing it.

Where can I get immediate help?
In an emergency, if you are in immediate danger, or you suspect someone is in immediate danger please call 999 and ask for the police.
Silent calls will work if you are not safe to speak – to use the Silent Solution system call 999 from a mobile and then press 55 when prompted and your call will be transferred to the police.
