On Friday 13th July the cream of Little Lever's year 8 Spanish and French linguists took part in the inaugural Bolton MFL Translation Bee. Megan Baxendale, Harrison Evans and Bella Thompson (for French) as well as Adam Tyerman, Gracie Lowe and Kelsey Fearn (for Spanish) competed against 70 of the best linguists from a variety of Bolton schools to translate as much Spanish and French as they could.

The participants took to the stage one person at a time and over the... course of a minute were bombarded with a random selection of the 150 words they had prepared. As could be expected competition was fierce, however Harrison and Megan were able to wow the judges and secure a top five finish to compete in the grand finale. Both performed admirably but missed out at the final hurdle, and by a hair's breadth, finishing 4th and 5th respectively out of the 40 pupils competing in French.

Despite not bringing any silverware back to school the afternoon was a fantastic experience, showing that we can compete with the best of them. Mr Rhodes was immensely proud of all who competed and in awe of their resilience and commitment to the cause.
