College Enrolment Update No.2

We understand that our year 11 students will have many questions regarding their college places for September. We will post updates that we receive from post-16 providers below to ensure that students have access to the latest information. If you do require any further assistance please email mwe@little-lever.bolton.sch.uk

Bolton College

Bolton College have informed us that they will be carrying out interviews by phone. For week commencing 23rd March, they will endeavour to make contact at the time the young person has booked their interview for.

After Easter they will move to making telephone interview calls during the day and booked appointments will no longer be in operation.  We will text / email anyone who has already booked an evening date/time to update them on the revised arrangements.  New applicants will be told we will ring them for an interview during the day in the near future.

Bolton College can be contacted via their LiveChat service using the pop up window on their website or via email to info@boltoncc.ac.uk   The Admissions Team can be contacted via admissions@boltoncc.ac.uk

Bury College

Message from Bury College to Little Lever Students:

Due to current concerns surrounding COVID-19, we are in the process of reviewing all our upcoming events. The safety and welfare of our applicants, students and staff is of the utmost importance and after some consideration, and purely as a precautionary measure, we have made the decision to cancel the Welcome Event on Thursday 2nd April.

Those year 11 pupils who had confirmed their attendance will not be disadvantaged in any way and there will be an opportunity for applicants to visit Bury College during the New Student Day which is due to take place on Monday 22nd June. Pupils that have confirmed their attendance have been contacted directly via email.

Holy Cross

Message from Holy Cross to Little Lever Students:

It is at this time of year that we need to chase students holding offers to formally accept/decline these to give us information ahead of enrolment and the impact on our timetable and staffing.  There are a number of individuals who have yet to respond to the request in their offer letter to login to their application portal where they can confirm their offer choice.

We will be contacting all such students via e-mail however we would urge all students who have not yet logged into the  application portal to accept their offer for September to please do so asap.  This would be greatly appreciated by the College.

Myerscough College

Message from Myerscough College to Little Lever Students:

Please find below confirmatory and advice information concerning pupil applications for courses at Myerscough College for September 2020.

As we all know the situation with schools and colleges remains very fluid with daily national and regional changes.

I just wanted to reassure staff and pupils that we are continuing to accept course applications as normal, in these difficult times and pupils can continue to be advised to apply online. Can I suggest that it in the best interest of pupils to do so sooner rather than later.

The college is currently discussing how applications will then be processed to award places. For the foreseeable future face to face interviews will not take place, however we will continue as appropriate to conduct remote telephone /skype style interviews. Our Admissions team will confirm submitted applications and instruct pupils on the next steps.

If pupils are unable to apply online we do have paper copy applications which if necessary students can request.

Salford College

Staff are working from home at this time. We are conducting telephone interviews for each pupil and will be offering a college place over the telephone, so if you could ask the students to be aware they will be receiving a phone call in the next coming weeks we will discuss their college place and offer them a place over the telephone, (please be aware this will be a call from a no caller id). When the college knows about enrolment, we will contact them via the details they have put on their form to inform them about the procedure of enrolment.

Letter from Anna Dawe, Principal of Wigan & Leigh College

Year 11 Applicants – Your place for September 2020 is safe

Dear Applicant,

I would like reassure school leavers across the borough and beyond that your place at Wigan & Leigh College is secured. After news that GCSE exams were cancelled the College has confirmed that no-one will be disadvantaged and all applicants will have a place.

I know you have been working hard to get the best grades you can in your GCSEs at school to secure a college place at the highest level possible. The impact of the methodology for awarding GCSE grades is not yet known but we are already committed to looking wider than those single grades.

When GCSE grades are issued, you will be able to work with the College admissions team to ensure you are on the right course at the right level.

Anyone applying for an Apprenticeship will be supported in finding employment as an apprentice and contact will be made to you if an employer within your chosen subject has a vacancy. The College is however aware that there may be a reduction in the number of apprenticeship vacancies as a consequence of the current situation. Apprenticeship applicants will have a place reserved on a full-time study programme if they have been unable to find an employment vacancy prior to starting at College.

To maximise the chance of securing apprenticeship employment, applicants must submit their CV, so that College can market you to appropriate employers. Please email this to the College at apprenticeships@wiganleigh.ac.uk by Friday 24 April 2020.

If you have not yet had your interview for College, please do not worry, our Admissions Team will be in contact via telephone shortly.

The College will ensure that you are kept up to date over the coming months and if you require anything further regarding your application and place at the College, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions team at applications@wigan-leigh.ac.uk I am sending my support and reassurance at this uncertain time.
