On Monday 26th September, we had a fantastic day in school celebrating the cultural and linguistic diversity of Europe for European Day of Languages. It was fantastic to see staff and students across all year groups getting involved.
The day started off with all PREP groups being greeted by their PREP tutor in a variety of languages from across the world. They were then shown a PowerPoint which highlighted the importance of learning a second language and the impact this can have upon communication and life chances. We were also delighted to see students getting involved and sharing greetings in their second languages. Well done to those who did! During break and lunchtime, we provided an immersive dining experience in the canteen where menus were displayed in foreign languages alongside some traditional European dishes. It was fantastic to see students stepping outside of their usual comfort zone and trying some new foods.
The main feature of the day was our spectacular European food market which took place outside of the cabins during our enrichment session. Foods from all across Europe were displayed and available for all pupils to sample free of charge. We had a brilliant turn out and were pleased that pupils from all ages attended and got involved. We also had a visit from Albert Einstein who conducted some fantastic science experiments.
A huge thank you to Masefield Primary School who came along and ran their own stall at our market. Their Spanish olive oil cakes and hot chocolate were a big hit amongst staff and pupils.
Another thank you to our language ambassadors who ran the market for our MFL team!
We are really looking forward to celebrating this again next year.
