At Little Lever School we set out to help your child achieve things they never thought they could. Research has shown that a key aspect of your child’s achievement is directly linked to regular, small learning tasks which help them to know more and remember more.
These tasks, known as Retrieval Practice, will be completed at home in place of the old ‘homework’ system. It is expected that all pupils take responsibility for completing their retrieval practice so that content and skills which have been learned in lessons can be easily retrieved days, weeks, months and even years later during their time with us.
Like before, it will be set on a schedule for all pupils so they know when they can expect it to be set. Students will be required to write the Retrieval Practice in their planners in order to aid them in organising their time and meeting deadlines. Brief details and deadlines will also be set on SIMS, alongside the deadlines for when it is due, to help you support your child. Pupils who engage in their retrieval practise at home will receive reward points and earn a place on the Praise List. Any pupil who does not engage in their retrieval practise at home will lose their place on the Praise List, and a range of further interventions may be put in place in order to allow your child the best chance of academic success.
Completion of Retrieval Practice will require access to the internet as subjects use online platforms. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet at home, please get in touch with the school office.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Many thanks for your support,
